A Mzungu in Africa
My life in St Judes School,Tanzania from January 2006
About Me
- Name: Mary-Elaine
- Location: Arusha, Tanzania
I'm Irish girl working at the School of St Jude in Tanzania. Founded in 2002, by Gemma Sisia, with 3 students, now there are 700 children running around here! And it's growing annually. AND the best part is they don't pay - sponsors do! The motto of the school is "Fighting Poverty Through Education". Without education the future generations in Africa will continue to spiral down into the poverty cycle. In 2005 the school placed 3rd out of 204 schools. 5 of our students were placed in the top 10 from 17,581. In 7 years, the eldest students will finish secondary school (we just have to bulid it first!) It's a pretty amazing place to live and work. Here are some of my adventures in Africa.
